During the summer and autumn we have hosted some world travellers from the USA, Mexico, Canada, Australia and Philippines, who wanted to taste the flavours of Croatian cuisine in the way to prepare food themselves. Among delicious traits we prepared štrukli and soparnik, then eingemachtes soup and steaks, all the way to sweet strudels and apple fritters. The workshops lasted up to 3 hours, after which the cooked meals were tasted, with a glass of domestic vine and pleasant company.
So the sisters from Los Angeles were thrilled by apricot strudel, a couple from Canada with brodetto, friends from the Philippines with soparnik, and the group from Australia and a family from Mexico loved apple fritters. Here are some of their impressions they shared with us.
Sisters from Los Angeles
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Karmela learning about Croatian cuisine. It was so much fun cooking and the food was great.” (Lisa)
“Thank you so much for teaching us and helping us learn how to cook such delicious food. Your cooking class is wonderful. The timing of everything was perfect.” (Jaclyn)
Family from Mexico City
“Liked it very much. With younger people (like my kids) maybe a little more attention with more guides, helping stuff to interest them and challenge their work so to have involved in the activity. For me, bonding with my family was the most important. I liked the experience very much.” (Susana)
Kristen & Glen from Canada
“Just wanted to drop a quick email to say thank you very much for our cooking class. Glen and I both had an extremely great time and enjoyed the food immensely. Our lecturer Marijana was great, as was her assistant. Once again, thank you both for an awesome experience.” (Kristen)
Happy group from Australia
“Overall a great experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Zagreb that is interested in Croatian cuisine. My favourite was the apple fritters, delicious!” (Stephanie)
“A professional and well laid out kitchen, compliments an evening of exploring the wonderful traditional gastronomy of Croatian cuisine. Marijana’s passion for her cooking and knowledge of Croatian food, from tree to table, were only topped by the end result of the whole experience, eating it!!!” (Rhysn)
Merry friends from the Philippines
“It was indeed a gastronomical experience! Great food! Great wine! Great teachers/lecturers! Loved everything.” (Paomig)
“I really enjoyed the cooking class! Everything was delicious!” (Jamie)
Looking forward to culinary socializing with new visitors to Zagreb from all over the world.
